The Bespoke Process:‍

A Step-By-Step Guide

1. ENQUIRY

We receive your enquiry through the website when you’ve submitted one of our bespoke contact forms (each section below has an ‘enquire now’ button). We recommend having a timeline of approx 12-14 weeks.

2. BOOK A CONSULTATION

We will get in touch and send a private design consultation link for you, this allows you to schedule in with Lorna to talk through the specific details of your dream jewellery. The choices you make will shape the designs to come.

3. QUOTE

Once we know exactly what you’re after, we’re able to price up an estimated quote for you during the consultation. Every design is totally different, and involves varying labour and techniques.

4. DEPOSIT

We require a 50% up-front deposit before we can begin making your bespoke jewellery. This helps cover some of our costs for your project, and essentially hires us as your very own jeweller.

5. DESIGN

Depending on your budget and desires, we can offer images of previous work, design sketches, CAD renders or wax sculpture images, allowing you to envisage how your jewellery will look. Once you’re happy with the design, a price/quote will be sent.

6. MAKE

Your jewellery is now on our workbench going through the stages of carving, cleaning, buffing, stonesetting, hallmarking and polishing. This is where all of the magic happens, if you’d like to be kept in the loop lets us know - we love progress pictures too!

7. FINISH

Your piece is thoroughly checked as part of quality control, and when it passes you’ll receive photos from us of your sparkly new piece. This is also when we receive our final deposit.

8. YOURS

We organise collection or delivery of your precious new jewellery. If you have a moment while admiring your new jewels, reviews mean the world to a small business like ours.

Bespoke Engagement + Wedding Rings

We know at Lores that it’s more important than ever to have an engagement ring that’s unique to you. In a world of ever-changing trends, fast fashion and mass produced jewels, we remain in calm waters by making classic and timeless rings you’ll be proud to wear for a lifetime.

We know that a ring is more romantic when it’s designed from scratch, with input from you/your partner and your jeweller collaboratively. It’s even more romantic when it didn’t cause the environment or people any harm, that’s why all of our jewellery is responsibly made with ethically-mined gemstones and recycled precious metal. Let’s not make one of life’s most special moments, one to worry about.

Sentimental Redesign

Wherever possible, we like to talk to customers about the idea of using their own jewellery to make new pieces. It may be the case that you have old, unworn, handed-down, or unwanted jewellery. Sentimental jewellery, such as pieces left in a will or from a previous marriage can be made wearable again, and those special items can be given a new life. Recycling gemstones into existing or new designs is a sentimental and sustainable way to have a revitalised piece of jewellery, while taking care of the planet.

Standard Bespoke

  • We have our bespoke timelines for a reason, it’s so we can make sure your perfect piece is ready on time. However, in special circumstances, we have been known to make miracles happen and create jewellery exceptionally fast.

  • Not at all, some of our favourite projects have been a joint effort between our head designer and our fantastic clients. We are always happy to talk through any ideas or worries you may have before-hand.

  • We would like to do nothing more than chat about gemstone options with you, enquire with our team today and we can pick the perfect jewel together.

  • Part of our role is guiding you through what makes sense for you given the budget you have. We can explain the different prices between metals or gemstones and help you decide what’s best for you. We recommend having at least £700 for an entirely bespoke piece.

Wedding + Engagement

  • Yes! We can create wedding rings that fit around any engagement ring you already have (or we’ve made - yay) perfectly.

  • We can create engagement and wedding rings from:

    • silver

    • platinum

    • palladium

    • 9k, 14k, 18k, 22k and 24k gold

  • At Lores we pride ourselves on creating beautiful and accessible jewellery. We can work to almost any budget within reason, just get in touch with the team and we will make it happen for you.

  • We get this question a lot, and it’s totally up to you and your budget. Have a think about whether you or your partner would feel comfortable with a diamond made in a factory and/or would like a bigger stone for your budget. If you prefer having a diamond with a natural history then perhaps mined is the way to go. We have plenty of ethically sourced diamonds to choose from.

Sentimental Redesign

  • Yes! Recycling is at the core of Lores and we love using customer’s gemstones, however just like any gemstone purchased for you, there is usually a risk of breakage during the stone-setting process. When Lores has bought the gemstone for you (and it is of a clarity we are comfortable with) we will cover this replacement cost, but if it is your own stone, you would have to cover this cost. If you have questions about a particular gemstone you own, please get in touch and we can discuss options.

  • It is possible to make new jewellery out of multiple different pieces of your own gold. However, it is important to note that the hallmark (mark on metal which signifies metal purity) will represent that of the lowest karat of gold in the mixture.

  • When it comes to using your own gemstones, then it certainly can save you money.

    Using existing precious metals to make a new piece is typically something which is done for sentimental reasons, rather than financial. ‘Own can’ casting (the process of using your own precious metals rather than using recycled metal purchased by Lores) is time and labour intensive, meaning generally any money saved by providing your own metal will go towards covering the cost of weighing and testing the quality of your own metal. This is necessary so the new piece of jewellery can be correctly hallmarked. While individual instances may very depending on quantity of metal, it is generally true that the cost of using your own metals or purchasing recycled metals will be approximately equal.

  • During the making process it’s normal to add in a small amount of ‘fresh’ gold to make sure the final ring can be hallmarked with the prefered purity rating (eg: 9ct,18ct). We would need to add even more Lores recycled gold if you do not supply enough gold for the jewellery item we are making for you. This will be charged at the standard rate for the gold carat we are using.
