Harbingers of the Sea
The Harbingers of the Sea collection is a playful yet powerful reminder of the fragile balance between humanity and the natural world. Made from recycled silver and hand-sculpted, each of the five pendants features a selection of the world’s most endangered sea creatures; a whale shark, blue-fined tuna, great white shark, scalloped hammerhead shark and a blue whale. At first glance, these pendants appear to be a ridiculous scene, with Indiana jones riding a great white shark while hanging from a chain. On closer inspection, we have a different take.
The skeletal riders feature stereotypically heroic characters; a pirate, doctor, astronaut, diver and an Indiana jones type explorer. These roles are idolised by children, who don’t yet understand the challenges faced in our world, yet our neglect of these animals endangers the future of all creatures alike. The symbolism of having these riders sitting atop of some of these sea creatures, is a statement on how we currently see the hierarchy of the animal kingdom, with ourselves above all else. Their boney frames serve as a haunting symbol: once these creatures are gone, we will be gone too.
With each piece meticulously crafted, Harbingers of the Sea isn’t just jewellery; it’s an important message presented in a gently adventurous way. Made with recycled materials and attention to detail, these pieces carry a lasting message in both form and function.
Beautiful handmade Great White Shark with a skeleton Indiana Jones rider pendant, based upon a collection of the most endangered sea creatures made into pendants.
Hand-sculpted from miliput resin-wax this pendant was cast into 100% recycled silver and then further detail like his eyes and gills were added afterwards by carving into the silver.
Every piece sold from this collection donates 10% to Sea Shepard Charity, a organisation committed to protecting out waters.
